Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige

January 29, 2018

I didn’t ask for any of this. I didn’t ask to be some kind of hero.
But when your whole life gets swept up by a tornado – taking you with it – you have no choice but to go along, you know?
Sure, I’ve read the books. I’ve seen the movies. I know the song about the rainbow and the happy little bluebirds. But I never expected Oz to look like this. To be a place where Good Witches can’t be trusted, Wicked Witches may just be the good guys, and winged monkeys can be executed for acts of rebellion. There’s still a yellow brick road – but even that’s crumbling.
What happened? Dorothy.
They say she found a way to come back to Oz. They say she seized power and the power went to her head. And now no one is safe.
My name is Amy Gumm – and I’m the other girl from Kansas.
I’ve been recruited by the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked.
I’ve been trained to fight.

I just wanna say that I have no idea how this book has less then 4 stars on Goodreads. I have heard a lot of mixed reviews about this book so I decided to read it for myself. I am super glad I did. I absolutely loved it! The writing style in this book is amazing. The world building was some of the best I have ever read in a book and that is really saying something. As I was reading I felt like I could vividly see everything in front of me. The characters were well developed and so unique in their own ways. I loved that instead of coming from a farm like Dorothy, Amy, came from a trailer park. She wasn’t rich and she didn’t have a good life. Oh and her pet she brings with her to Oz is just so funny but it works so well. She has her doubts about this world of Oz and all in it. She doesn’t blindly trust anyone. She is always making her own decisions. That I really appreciated as a lot of authors make main characters trust too easy and its super annoying. Also there was no stupid love triangle in this book thankfully. I was glad about that. This twisted version of Dorothy and Oz is just perfect. I would have never thought to make Dorothy bad but I love this version of it so much. It takes a lot of creativity to make a book like this.

All in all for me this book get 5 out of 5 stars! I can not recommend this book enough. Highly enjoyed!
